Father Nicholas Figliola
PastorFather Nicholas Figliola,
hails from nearby West Islip. Ordained in 1964 when he was a Capuchin
Franciscan, Father Nick came to the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 1977.
His interesting past includes such varied ministries as seminary and
high school teacher, chaplain to Sisters, Brothers, and institutes of
rehabilitation, director of vocations, retreat and mission preacher,
spiritual director, and parish priest. His academic past earned him a
B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Theology, and a Master of Divinity. He
enjoyed serving in several Long Island parishes before becoming pastor
of St. Frances Cabrini in Coram and Our Holy Redeemer in Freeport. He
was appointed Pastor of St. Lawrence parish in 2008 and enjoys the easy
going and friendly Sayville community. He finds the parishioners very
welcoming and supportive, not only to the parish, but also to him as
their pastor.
Father has a great sense of humor
which has served him well in ministering to the People of God. He often
peppers his homilies with a funny story or a joke. He loves being a
priest, a vocation he has cherished since he was a child. He enjoys
preaching and teaching, and is especially involved in the Rite of
Christian Initiation. He is keen on offering the parish his talents
especially in preaching and adult education.
Father Nick is an avid Yankee fan, a
history buff, and a lover of music, especially classical, opera, and the
music of the fabulous 50’s. He is grateful to come from a warm Italian
background family, for they have contributed greatly to his life as a
priest. May God continue to bless our parish through the efforts and
leadership of Father Nick.
Father
Brian J. Ingram
Associate Pastor
Father Brian J. Ingram is
a priest of nineteen years, ordained by Bishop John R. McGann on May 26,
1990. He is the eldest of six children—three boys and three
girls—born to Raymond and Mary Jane Ingram of Huntington, N.Y. Father
Brian began his life in Bayside, Queens, but his parents moved their
expanding family to Huntington when Brian was four. His parents still
live in the same house, and Fr. Brian is delighted that none of his
assignments since ordination have put him more than 30 to 40 minutes
from home.
He is the proud uncle to twelve
nieces and nephews (so far!), and is godfather to three of them. One of
his real pleasures in recent years is being able to spend time with his
siblings, their spouses and their children, most of whom are within an
hour or two of Sayville. He enjoys literature and the arts, traveling, a
bit of creative writing, dining out with friends, and he’s a big movie
buff.
Fr. Brian is one of the last priests
in our diocese to have moved through the formative “system” that was so
typical for decades, but which no longer exists in the form it once had.
He attended St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary in Uniondale as a high
school student, went on to Cathedral College in Douglaston (where he
earned a B.A. in English), and then directly to the major seminary in
Huntington. For a time, he was the youngest of several hundred priests
working on Long Island.
Fr. Brian’s priestly ministry has
been a deeply satisfying one, filled with marvelous and often
challenging opportunities to share in the faith lives of people from
Seaford to Bellmore to Garden City, and now to the beautiful community
of Sayville—his first assignment in Suffolk County. He is deeply
appreciative of the encouragement and kindness he has found here at St.
Lawrence, and looks forward to using whatever skills and energies he has
to help build up this very special parish family. Belonging to Christ is
not a guarantee that our lives will be free from stress or
disappointment or loss, Fr. Brian concedes, but with the Spirit of Jesus
alive in us, and with so much talent and generosity among the people of
the parish, nothing is ever impossible.
