We then drove to Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. We watched a movie there about Qumran and then walked through the excavations of the site. We looked up into the hills and the actualcaves where the scrolls were found.

We then drove down to the Dead Sea where I and several members of our group went into the water and floated. The Dead Sea is known for its medicinal properties.

We then headed back for Jerusalem but stopped along the way at Bethany where we visited the location of the house of Martha, Mary and Lazarus. When we got off of the bus, there was a camel and the owner there who got me to have a picture taken with this new found rather foul smelling camel. It was a brief moment of fun and the other’s got a laugh out of it. We then headed up to the church built at the home of Martha and Mary and Lazarus. This Franciscan church is built over earlier churches and there are places where you can see the Byzantine mosaic floors. We went in to an ancient side room that has a large wine press in it. We then looked into a tomb, that is believed to be the one of Lazarus, but further identifications have to be made to be sure. We then headed back to the hotel.
